8 Point Lakes Banner
  • The Association

The lake association was formed in 1946 to grapple with lake-related issues of the day and to foster camaraderie through sponsored social activities. Over the years those issues have included topics such as landfill location and maintenance, fire protection, water safety, fish poaching, road and signage improvements, and swimmer’s itch.

The Clubhouse – Rock Rd at Garfield Ave – was built in 1955, where bridge clubs gathered and where softball games, teen dances, shuffleboard and horseshoe tournaments were held.  Today the Clubhouse is the site of our spring and fall membership meetings, the annual garage sale, some Fourth of July events, and board and committee meetings. Members may reserve use of the Clubhouse for family reunions and special events.

The 65th Anniversary Celebration was held in 2011. In spite of the heat, a crowd of about 400 had a full day of activities and great food.

The Association was known as the Eight Point Lake Cottagers Association from its beginning in 1946 until the early 1970’s. Our official name has been the Eight Point Lake Property Owners’ Corporation ever since. People sometimes informally refer to it as The Association, the Homeowners’ Association, or the Lake Property Owners’ Group, just to name a few.

    Fish Stocking Program

The Association has a long history of stocking fish in our lake. The program is funded by member donations, and up to 80% of the funds received annually may be used to purchase fish. Stocking is typically done during October. The species and quantity selected each year for stocking depends on funds, species availability, price and the needs of the lake. Stoney Creek Fisheries & Equipment, Inc. has been our supplier for many years.

Since the opening of the DNR Boating Access Site in 2009, our lake has qualified for the State's bi-annual fish stocking program. 30,000 Walleye spring fingerlings (2") were planted in June 2011.

    Neighborhood Watch

Eight Point Lake is part of a larger Neighborhood Watch Community in Garfield Township that includes Crooked Lake, Perch Lake, and Gray Lake residents. The primary goal of our Neighborhood Watch program is to have property owners looking out for each other in order to reduce or eliminate crime in this area. We achieve this through education aimed at reducing the likelihood of crime to the individual’s property and by building a partnership with local law enforcement agencies. Click here for a NW Tip Card of strategies to improve the safety and security of your home or cottage.

Also, consider having your home or cottage registered with the Clare County Sheriff Dept. by submitting a 9-1-1 House Record Form. It is a valuable tool that enables law enforcement personnel to provide faster, more efficient and thorough service to you and your property in the event of a break-in or property damage. The form was conceived and developed as a collaborative effort between our township Neighborhood Watch group and the Sheriff Dept. The concept took off and was expanded to include the whole county. It has evolved once again, and plans are to make it available in every county throughout the state. Information you provide on the form is optional – you are not obligated to disclose any information you deem as sensitive to your personal situation.

Click here for the 9-1-1 House Record form.

    Become a Member

Whether you are a new, renewing, or prospective member, we invite you to get better acquainted with the Eight Point Lake Property Owners’ Corporation and the many people involved in making and keeping our beautiful lake a special place for all ages to live or vacation. Nearly 3/4 of property owners are Association members.

We still address the fun and safety elements, and more recent efforts have centered on education and managing the aquatic threats to our lake. These efforts are “labors of love” as a volunteer, non-profit organization with an elected Board.

Effective fund management has allowed our annual dues to remain at $20 since 1989, quite a feat in this day and age. Dues cover the cost of mailings, Clubhouse repairs and maintenance, costs associated with the Boater Safety Class and other safety efforts. We also publish and distribute the annual Lake Directory to our members.

Voluntary donations support the fish stocking program, flower fund, safety fund, recreation fund, and the fireworks displays that everyone enjoys so much. Donations also fund portions of the Fourth of July events.

We welcome your questions, ideas, and membership! Some folks are highly involved in association activities, serving on committees or the Board. Others like to help out as time permits on an as-needed basis.  There are lots of opportunities to contribute in short-term, fun and easy ways, such as stuffing envelopes for an hour, giving 30 minutes to help organize items for the garage sale, or 20 minutes to help post meeting reminder notices at each cottage in your neighborhood. No one will “twist your arm,” but if you offer, we’ll accept! For the Membership Application, click here.
